TALSAR COMPANY HISTORY

The company as it is today came from very humble beginnings to its present status as one of Australias well respected suppliers in the egg industry.

1927

2 young men , Joseph and Frank Attard migrated to Australia from Malta arriving in Queensland before finally settling in Sydney, New South Wales. That same year, the brothers purchased a 1 acre block of land in a then outer western suburb of Sydney, known as Pendle Hill. They commenced a market garden growing seasonal fruit and vegetable and also put up a shed to hold 50 laying chickens.

1928

Another shed was erected to hold 250 laying chickens and the brothers commenced selling their fresh eggs and produce, in a horse drawn cart, delivering door-to-door.

1930

The farm was shifted to other nearby Sydney suburbs known as Smithfield and another property at Silverwater. The chickens now numbered 750.

1932

Joseph married mary having 4 children., their first child, charlie was born in 1934 and in the same year, another brother,bill migrated from malta to australia. Joseph and Mary also had 2 daughters Francis and Maria the second son and youngest child, John was born in 1946.
The three brothers worked in the business together developing it until Bill took over the farm administration while Joe and Frank concentrated on egg distribution.

1952

Joseph passed away leaving his wife Mary and 4 young children to succeed him. The eldest son Charlie, aged 18 years, immediately became active in the business helping his mother Mary and uncle Bill to run the business known as Mary Attard And Sons. 6 months later, Frank passed away.

Charlie was called in for National Service which meant that a partner was needed. Enter Bill Sherry. The company then operated as Attard And Sherry.
In the meantime, the government run egg board took over egg distribution routes and the Attards were allocted 2 runs throughout various parts of Sydney. 1 run was allocated to Mary Attard And Sons, the other to Attard And Sherry.

1969

Having grown up in this environment, son John formally enters the business and carries on through to his mothers death in 1978 and until government deregulation of the egg industry in 1989.

1989

John and Charlie became partners and soon formed Talsar Egg Distributors.(later changed to Talsar Egg And Produce Supplies Pty Ltd)
In the following years, through sheer determination and hard work, the company expanded rapidly under the new free system. As this company grew John also moved into other known egg products, buying and selling frozen and powdered products.

While Charlie and Bill Sherry still operating their own egg transport company with refrigerated trucks known as Brighton Transport.
Both Charlie and John continued to grow and operate their businesses successfully until Charlie passed away in 2011.

John’s sons Joseph & Michael have since joined the company some 4 years ago.

Talsar Egg & Produce supplies Pty. Ltd. are still selling fresh eggs, frozen egg products, further processed egg products such as boiled peeled eggs, scrambeled eggs, powdered egg products.

Ready made pavlovas, pavlova pre-mix and ice cream pre-mix from our own r&d to create formulations.

Importing and exporting has become a specialty as the company has divessed into other fields mostly the concentration is in the food business.

Talsar has a successful transport business specialising in the supply of eggs and egg products to the cruise line industry offering service and reliability as our main expertise.

Talsar has expanded to now include a world-wide import/export service of powdered egg products encompassing many reliable sources especially USA, Indian & Danish origin from accredited manufacturers, this has created contacts in many other associated industries which we also service as required.

Talsar has diversed into manufacturing a food additive known as Tomax this product using all natural ingredients to extend the shelf life of many food items such as ham, bacon, salami, sausage fresh chicken, beef and a variety of other products including some fruits & vegetables.
